203. History of Maple Sugaring

On weekends, visitors can walk through time along the Sugarbush Trail from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to see the sap-collecting methods and syrup-making processes used by Native Americans, pioneers and modern sugar farmers.  The History of Maple Sugaring hikes will lead to the Sugarhouse, where guests can watch sap being boiled into delicious, 100-percent pure maple syrup.  Guided public hikes leave the Sugarhouse every 20 minutes (the last hike leaves at 3:40 p.m.).

Come to CanalWay Center to learn about how pioneers in our area lit up their lives. Find out what materials and methods were used to make candles. Participants will make a rolled beeswax candle to take home. Drop in anytime during the program. CanalWay Center is located on Whittlesey Way, off the East 49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between Grant Avenue and Canal Road in Cuyahoga Heights.

Sunday January 8:  Winteriffic! Enjoy ice carvings, hikes, winter recreation demonstrations, and more!

Sunday January 15, Friday February 28, Friday March 9:  Dollar Day - $1 hot dogs and $1 sodas.

Friday February 3:  Cleveland State Vikings Street Team and Magnus the Mascot with activities. s And, all kids receive a FREE ticket to the February 25 Vikings game (Fan Appreciation Night)!

Friday February 10:  Lake Erie Monsters Street Team from 6 to 8 p.m. Drawing to race Sully the Mascot at 8 p.m.! AND, receive a $5 off discount to the February 12 Monsters game!

177. Brookstock

Bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy music all day. Along with great music, “BrookStock” features vendors and exhibitors, arts and crafts, a kites flying high in the air, games and activities, hikes, live animals, and more!
EarthWords Nature Shop will be on site selling merchandise and offering a tie-dye station, too.  Visitors can buy shirts from EarthWords for $5, or bring their own t-shirts and print for a $1 to create their own tie-dye shirt.  Shop staff and volunteers will help with the dyes to help create a “groovy” shirt.
Enjoy an afternoon with activities and great live music at BrookStock – A Celebration of Music & Nature in Cleveland Metroparks – part of your life, naturally!

175. Dive-In Movies

Visitors can bring something to sit on and enjoy the movie from a spot on the lawn, or view the movie while relaxing in an inner tube in the heated luxury of Ledge Pool. Inner tubes are available by reservation only, and are $5 for single tubes and $7 for double tubes.  
Doors open at 8 p.m. the movie begins approximately at 8:45 p.m. All ages welcome to this great movie, but visitors 8 and under must be accompanied with an adult in the pool at all times. No outside floating devices will be permitted in the swimming area.  Space in the pool is limited, so be sure to reserve your inner tubes today!  
Refreshments available through Ledge Rock Café.

173. Knee High Naturalists

Sunday, June 12

Some of the activities include:
• Hikes with “Nora the Explorer” –
   Naturalist Nora Sindelar leads children on hikes, full of nature discovery.
• Discovery Sand Box –
   Plastic bugs, hand-carved potato bugs, earthworms made of rubber hose, rubber snakes, and more are buried in the sand for children to discover.
• Giant Habitat Felt Board –
   Children have fun placing hundreds of animal images on a 30-foot long felt board representing pond, field and forest habitats.
• Beaver and Frog Pools Water-play Areas –
   A small pool filled with water is home to a family of “beavers” (beanie toys) and plenty of sticks for building a lodge or dam.  Another small pool is filled with toy snails, snakes, crayfish, and frogs in various stages of development.
• Live Animals –
   View live animals for children to see and touch.
• Touch Table –
   Skulls and pelts to discover up-close, with a naturalist on-hand to answer questions.

Arboretum is located off Arbor Lane in South Chagrin Reservation, north of Cannon Road in Bentleyville.
Parking for the “Knee-High Naturalists” event is at The Shelterhouse Picnic Area, located off Hawthorn Parkway, east of SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Bentleyville – north of the Route 422/Route 91 exit.
From The Shelterhouse Picnic Area, a ranger will help visitors cross Hawthorn Parkway to the all purpose trail.  Follow the trail along Arbor Lane to the entrance of the Arboretum.

134. Tobogganing at The Chalet

Tobogganing operates the day after Thanksgiving (noon - 10:30 p.m.) through the first weekend in March.

Thursdays (January & February) 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Fridays 6 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Saturdays noon -10:30 p.m.
Sundays noon - 5 p.m.

Rates
Adult (all day) $8
Child - 11 and under (all day) $6
One ride $3
Thursdays:  school and college ID Night $5 with ID

A season pass is available at a cost of $35 for adults and $25 for children 11 and under. A discount on season passes is available through December 24. A family pass for up to four individuals is available.
A $3 one-time ride ticket is also available. Group rates ($1 off per person for groups of 20 or more) are available for tobogganing during public hours and must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. Private rental of The Chalet, including the toboggan chutes, is available during non-public hours.
Tobogganing may be canceled due to weather and/or ice conditions. No rainchecks or refunds.
Rules and Regulations:
  • Children 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All children must be at least 42 inches tall to ride.
  • All riders must wear gloves or mittens.
  • Cleveland Metroparks is not responsible for injuries or personal property.
  • For your protection, height and safety requirements will be enforced.
  • No outside food or beverage permitted inside Chalet buil

118. Fall Hayrides at Chalet Recreation Area

Fall Hayrides (cost includes hayride and entertainment)
Adults $7.50
Children (ages 3 - 11) $5.50
Children (2 and under) Free - must sit on an adult lap for the hayrides.
Saturdays throughout October
Saturday Nights (October 3, 10, 17, 24) • 6 – 10 p.m.
Sundays throughout October
Sunday Afternoons (October 4, 11, 18, 25) • Noon – 4 p.m.


The public, tractor-drawn hayrides are offered on a first-come, first
–served basis, and leave approximately every half hour.  All hayrides are ADA accessible.
Enjoy hayrides, square dancing for all ages, a hay maze, and a face-painting & balloon-twisting clown. And, square dancing can be enjoyed by all, too!  On Sundays, bonus activities include pumpkin carving demonstrations and additional entertainment.

12. Squire's Castle

One of my favorite places to go as a kid, and a nice place for a date if you're sans kiddos.  Pack a picnic, bring a frisbee, and don't forget your camera this open air castle is picturesque all year round!

Features: Open shelter, picnic tables, grills, ballfield, physically challenged access, restrooms, parking.
