97. Bug City Bug Fest

Saturday August 14

Garfield Park Nature Center  


Visitors of all ages will be introduced to the cool world of insects!  Learn what insects do, why they are important and even what they taste like!
Tour the Bug House to view a wide variety of bug exhibits from Ohio to Africa. Enjoy bug cooking demonstrations, bug recipes, crafts and more at the Culinary Bugstitute.  Or, head over to the Art District for ‘buggy’ music with Gary Lee and class is in session with Dr. Insecta.
Experience Bug SafariLand and enjoy the great bug hunt, the ant trail and the must-do activity for kids – the Mealworm 500, where kids can watch the mealworms race to the finish line!
“Buzz” over to the B & B Area to view a variety of butterflies and bee exhibits, or visit Buggywood for bug bingo and puppet shows.
Walk down Predator Alley, where visitors can view the little bug city and see live animals provided by Lake Erie Nature & Science Center.
Families can also take rides on the Bug Express Train ($1/person).
Children can obtain passports to be stamped at a variety of learning activity stations on their Bug City tour.  After filling their passports, kids can receive their own key to “Bug City.”

87. Space Week


Does your little one want to go to the moon? Well than this weeks Space Week at the Great Lakes Science Center will be as close as they can get (for the next few years at least!)  Check out the new NASA Glenn Visitor Center, meet an astronaut, watch Hubble in Omni-max, ride in a Gyroscope (cool!), make your own rocket!! Lots of other awesomeness!

Not for the younger crowd, but I went in DC and loved it!  They don't allow strollers :(  Great for the budding scientist in your house!  Running now through October 31.

16. Great Lakes Science Center

Snow to cap off your spring break?  Typical Cleveland.... Take the kids down everyone's favorite indoor activity!  The Great Lakes Science Center offers activities to entertain all age groups.  There is the Polymer Funhouse for your kindergarten and below group with ball-pit, jump-house and jungle gym.  For the older crowd there is the BioMedTech Gallery, Return to the Moon Gallery and LOTS of other hands on adventures.  You can also go to the Steamship William G. Mather Museum and the Omnimax theater (Currently Playing: Sea Monsters and Hubble).  This wonderful addition to downtown Cleveland also has many camp and overnight sessions, what better way to encourage the children to have fun with science!

And now the best part TUESDAYS ARE FREE!  All youth 18 and under can enjoy free general admission to GLSC on Tuesdays when accompanied by an adult!
